just bought a palisades dating back to 1988 from ebay and was trying to find info on marins range of bikes from this era and so far am coming up blank on anything earlier than '91.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please?

also my dad has a light gloss grey (as opposed to matt zolatone grey of later models) pine mountain with bright orange forks and xt groupset, thumbies etc. i thought this was from '91 but looking at the brochures it would appear to be before that as well. Could that be a 1990 model?

thanks in anticipation

Hi
I have a similar Pine Mountain in the same colours (pale gloss grey) which I understood to be an '89 model. It has a groupset and gears with 'deore' only written on it? Also features the 'biospace' chain rings.

There's one on ebay with 4 hours to go....

well i never, so there is. thats the one. i was always really envious of him as it always looked quite classy.

so his is an '89 then, thanks for that!

not sure about the red bar ends with orange bars the ebay sale has.

thanks LB, not yet, collecting it friday.

i nearly bought a similar aged blue one from florida but the shipping from the US made it a bit prohibitive so it was good to find one on my doorstep. will post some snaps when i get it home. (or work where it will be kept till the right moment to admit i have bought another bike)

Shipping and import duty makes buying from the US something you need to weigh up these days.

I'm steering clear of the States unless it's something unobtainable elsewhere.

You think its pricey to buy from outside the US? Try buying from inside!

Seems to be very little info about Pre-1991 Marins. Supposedly the company started in 1987, so I wonder if the 1988's even had catalogs!

I bought a San Jose cross bike in relativley cheaply from the US a couple of years ago and the total price still came out cheaper than buying a comparable bike in the UK. But for buying something like the palisades its just not worth the duties or the delivery charges.

considering Marin are a major key player in bike manufacture, its staggering there isn't much information available on the earlier models. I've heard its impossible to get any help or sense out of Marin themselves either.
