thanks john
i'm struggling to find anything below 90-100 quid :?

Yes, that was about what transglobal cost - which was a fair bit less than the others (parcel2go etc.). You might get it a little cheaper than me, I sent a road framset.

I sent a frame last year from the post office by airmail.

So long as the longest length is under 105cm (I think) you can send one for £65.

If you take the frame to a smaller post office they tend not to worry about the size too much.

i should have updated this thread sooner.
this was fantastic advice

i was quoted £240 online to send it parcelforce global express so i tried the little old lady at the local post office, same service £90 with other options at £80 £70 and £60.if you book online they factor in the size of the box and multiply it by the weight and get a 'volumetric weight'.i've just checked online and it's in australia now - less than 4 days

big thanks to uktyler :D

That's exactly what I did, got an overpriced quote online, but dealt with a nice old lady at the post office

Sometimes the internet is not the best way of doing things.

Just glad my experience was useful for someone else.

I sent a pair of chris king wheels to Tasmania and you can bet i was nervous
Wrap the frame well.At the end of the wrapping you should have something akin to a marshmallow
Force this mass of bubblewrap into a tight fitting box.
IMPORTANT
Cover the entire box with gaffa/duck/duct tape so it is more or less watertight.I have heard of stories of boxes getting wet sitting on a runway, slowly disintegrating

A 2nd point is not insuring it or insuring it for the minimum.Seems import duties/handling fees increase if the parcel is highly insured :? dont know why but apparently thats the way it works.

When sending abroad i use Royal mail International signed for.
