Poll - Replica frames/bikes and the naming of them

the had crossed my mind - until I heard the they were made by a guy called Chris, who was 26 at the time of making them (do correct me if I'm wrong )- hence the why I had the idea for calling mine an O-19

After all this I'm tempted just to go for O-19, with a few other stickers as below

While I admire the fact that one so young should spend skill and energy creating something so old, if we follow the 'initial-age' approach, then in a few years, the world will be full of X-38s and X-42s and the market will implode.

Interesting topic , I've been thinking of painting a frame in Ritchey red/white/bliue colours , but getting transfers made up to the make of frame that it is . What do you 'orrible lot think of that idea ?

I do tend to like a challenge - I built a full carbon frame last summer (link in signature), and really enjoy the fact that I can ride on my own creation (even if it's had a few minor teething issues :roll: ). We are currently studying bonding and adhesives in one of my modules at uni and since I've always loved the looks of the C-26 frames - I thought "how hard can it be". Also as epoxies and general preparation methods have moved on so much in 20 years, methods that manufacturers could only dream about back then can be done by the average enthusiast (with the help from one of the leading researchers in metallic bonding :mrgreen: )

I like Scott decals- why not just forget the Yeti thing. plenty of other people made bonded frames and plenty of other people have made Yeti C-26 replicas (with real Yeti frames and NOS carbon tubes etc)

The main reason for this project is that at the moment the scott frame is looking a bit worse for wear, after having been used as a campus hack bike for the past year with a dented top tube (I dropped a large piece of 2x2 timber on it ) and flaking paint and I have been wanting to attempt a bonded frame project (If I haven't mentioned I love projects ) for quite some time. So the old scott frame seemed the perfect choice!

If you can convince me there are some scott colours that are more to my liking than the classic yeti colours then I would definitely keep it as a scott - but would probably still carbon tube it, and the flared drop bars are definitely staying! :facepalm:

Sorry if I wasn't clear- I am 100% in favour of you bonding some carbon tubes in to you Scott frame- great project and I wish you luck. I just don't see the point of calling it a Yeti, but if you want to then go for it.

Personally I like the Scott typeface and think some Scott decals printed in nice colours would be cool.

Ah ok - the only reason for calling it a yeti was a bit of a lack of imagination, and the love for the turquoise/yellow colour scheme that was used on them - and the feeling that if I used the colour scheme I would go the whole route with name and all, but more research has shown a few other companies also did bonded carbon tubes in steel/Ti lugs, so steering clear of the whole yeti thing seems to be my best option to keep the purists happy

I do tend to agree the 90s Scott typeface and colours are quite nice - after a bit of searching I have possibly narrowed it down to a either a silver or blue frame, carbon tubes with yellow components/decals - but will keep looking as wont be doing this till christmas when I'm back home from uni, so have plenty of time to decide.

As for that JRD frame -that is one truly magnificent looking frame! I have seen his work before but not recently, I was also not to sure whether to do an integrated seatpost, but the beauty of that has decided that I will attempt it at least!

There are other 'Yeti' branded bicycles that are not Yeti

They have bullmoose bars, fat tyres and u-brakes

And Fiats have Ferrari badges on them

There aren't many good copies, but we're already seeing them passed off as the real thing
