polishing tips?

despite the Russel Brand-esque title, I'm just after any pointers on how I can polish up an AMP rear triangle a bit, I ain't after perfect but it does have quite a lot of superficial marks and looks a little dull.

Autosol for starters (get it from any motor factors) then Brasso. Its how I do ny RTS

Medium wire wool and soapy water followed by Brasso and a good buffing with a soft cloth. :shock:

Any metal polish or car polish you have kicking around will brighten it up.

I find

1 brillo pads
2 scotchbrite fine pads
3 autosol and a long rag, support the triangle in a work bench/vice and work the rag like your milking a coo as someone once pointed out. remember to keep going till the autosol disappears
4 brasso wadding
5 car wax to protect

cheers gents, ive no 'work space' so its happening in the flat, and the frames in bits so it should be easier that way! off to Wilko's tomorrow then!

Dont use anything abrasive
I use brasso with two soft cloths, in the wax on wax off approach, wire wool, even 0000 extra fine, leaves marks because alloy is soft,all you want to do is remove the oxide layer, autosol will do the best job
the above is for dull undamaged alloy.
If you want to remove scratching then an abrasive is used but unless you work through the grits finishing with a very fine one lubed with water,you'll be left with something akin to a brushed finish

Anyone use a Dremel for polishing?

If so what's the best process?

With a dremel, they make felt wheels and a polishing compound
but you can get a very fine abrasive set in rubber discs for said dremel[but not by them]these are very non aggresive,i used them for removing the file marks on some brass models i used to make.then finished off with the felt and compound
