Dont use anything abrasive
I use brasso with two soft cloths, in the wax on wax off approach, wire wool, even 0000 extra fine, leaves marks because alloy is soft, all you want to do is remove the oxide layer, autosol will do the best job
the above is for dull undamaged alloy.
If you want to remove scratching then an abrasive is used but unless you work through the grits finishing with a very fine one lubed with water, you'll be left with something akin to a brushed finish
