Please help me identify this bike

Thunderoad

Retro Newbie
Hello,
I have recently gotten (as a gift from a family friend) the bike you see on the pictures. However after serching the web I cannot find what make/model the bike is. :(

FYI this bike will not be sold, I need the information for myself for bragging purposes only. As far as I was told the bike is about 30years old, and has been in their family 'forever', now they wanted to give it on to someone who rides/loves/enjoys bikes and will keep it in running condition :)

Thanks for all your help.

It looks mid 1960's perhaps a little later. Close up pics would help. It has an italian look, with the steep seat angle, but frame internal threads would prove this. The Italian style of frame became popular from the early 1960's. The lug set was probably used by 100 small frame builders.

Looks more like late 70s to me (braze on gear lever bosses, over-BB cable routing, brake cable clips on top tube). Gears and chainset are Campag Nuovo Gran Sport by the looks of it, and the front mech is post-1978. Wheels, seatpost/seat and brake levers are clearly much more recent additions. What does it say on the seat tube?

As above.......... late 70's would be my guess as well given the style of the frame. Look like Prugnat long point lugs.

The Gran Sport crank stuff was polished with metal pressed out jockey cage for the rear mech and metal parallelogram for the front mech. The QR universal brakes are also the 70's. The other bits are newer though ........

Loads of frame builders turned these out around that time.

After another look, it does not look British. Perhaps when we get some more pics we can also get a location. The household power socket appears to be 2 pin, not allowed in UK. We had similar Universals in the mid 1950's, it looks like a 52x44 chainset, but much later rims? If campagnolo rear ends are they the short type?

Does America have 2 pin plugs ?

Well spotted, like the bloke who watched the Rosswell alien autopsy and spotted a spiral telephone wire that wasn't invented when the film was meant to be shot..

Thanks for all the info you gave so far,

to answer your question, yes it is a 'handpainted' BOOCI on the tube.
Yes the rear gear is Campagnolo. Nuovo Gran Sport. I have attached 2 more pics that I have with me, the bike is at my parents place at the moment in the garage :)

If you need pictures of any specific parts let me know and I will make them.
