Re:

It looks like a JJB sports special (reebok or Kobe maybe) that someone's stripped and fitted some manitou forks and deore wheels

I hope you didn't pay anything for the frame

But the Reebok and jjb frame doesn't have the diamond shaped seat tube

i didnt say thats what it was, but that sort of quality. kobe, silver fox, reebok, apollo, challenge... that sorta thing. i worked at halfords, i can tell cheap bikes a mile off :P

i was gonna build a cheap jump bike once out of an x rated, so it is possible to disguise it with better parts and make an alright bike out of it, just be careful if your using it for anything more than commuting because these frames arent made to withstand much

The welds are very well done and it is again extremely lightweight most bike centres ive been too think it could be diamondback because of the diamond shape seat tube which seems very unusual cant find anything similar and diamond back hanger fits but not sure its one of them.I really dont think its a cheap bike it has a late eightys early nightys crank I will try looking thou at those makers youve mentioned but my neighbour has been building retro mountain bikes for twety years now and he seems to think its a decent make

Re:

What can be said to someone who asks a question because they don't know the answer but then swears you are wrong when they don't like the answer given? This is also just sure proof that people who work in supposedly professional bike shops don't always know what they are talking about.
