I was watching a Black Mamba that had Mountain LX gear so that would date it at 1989. Really wanted a Lazer 15 way back when.

Didn't Tim Gould ride for them bitd? Think MBK were French as well and knocked out a few reasonable bikes.

Yeah he did, they also made a few Tim Gould signature bikes one of which i had.

I also had a Peugeot Alpina it was my 1st ever big bike, but snapped the rear stay so peugeot gave me the Tim Gould one :)

Cool

Love it! That's gonna look ace once you've finished sorting it out - Those bars are a really nice detail

Looks like you got it rideable already- Nice work

I reckon you should attempt to match that front tyre though

Skinwalls = Cool

Actual info!

Here's some stuff that might help:

Take a rummage in here:

http://cyclespeugeot.com/Catalogs.html

Couldn't see your specific bike anywhere, but there is a road bike in the 1990 catalogue with the SAME paint job precisely

I'm thinking 1990/91 for your bike, and the white levers (Exage?), should be able to date those from Shimano catalogues...

http://www.retrobike.co.uk/gallery2/mai ... emId=15553

Failing that there are date codes on the shimano components

http://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm

Scroll down 'til you see the Shimano section there is a table in there

They did the same same paint job thing in '89 when my bike was current, there was a road bike with the same paint job, that year (RB member 'Sweety' actually has one)

I couldn't see my bike either, could see a US version with lower spec components...

Also:

interesting stuff here about how the frames were made, internal brazing and all that

Have fun digging around!

Thanks Hydorah,

Done some research on the parts and it's a real mix of mid-range stuff in good condition such as Nexus & Altus hubs, 400LX chainset, Alivio Derailleurs and 700CX shifters. Dates vary between 90 & 93 so assumed it was towards the later end of that period.

Still a pity that there doesn't seem to be much detail about Peugeot MTBs of that period still around.

While it would be nice to know the full original specs, I don't think it will affect anything really as I'm going to keep it as it is and just tidy it up.

Might look for another tyre to match the front Wolber Chamonix as it does look nice on the bike.
