trying to configure wep security on my brothers compaq laptop,have enabled 64 bit and got the key but when you then try to connect to the network but the option to connect and then enter wep key is greyed out??! i tried on my laptop and it wasnt greyed out and i am connected,hence typing this.. why on earth does his laptop not allow to connect??

maybe it doesn't support WEP like yours does.

love the fact that on the 2nd page they started to tell people that WEP aint the best security feature though

All routers/Wi-Fi shoudl support WEP.

Are you sure you're not using WPA/WPA2 for security?

Just remove the settings, let it find it and enter the code when needed. (type it in, not copy and paste, just to make sure)


Other than that more inof about the computer would be needed.

sorted now i was able to right click the connection and enter the key via properties.
