Paying rent makes me sad :(

The crash is yet to come when interest rates go up....and up...

Bought my first house in 1990 at 14.75%.
Me too, although can't remember the exact interest rate at the time, but same year for my first house.

Then the next few years, house prices went down the toilet, and it wasn't worth what I paid, plus with the normality of endownment mortgages before the bubble burst, it wasn't the best situation.

But as long as your mortgage is in an affordable range, you'll likely weather the storm.

I dream of £800 a month.... My current mortgage is £2500 a month, council tax £200 a month, insurance £75 a month, oil and elec £100 a month. I'm easily out £3000 a month before I've even bought a loaf of bread. Mortgages tie you in to work, you can't take a break, you can't escape, you constantly worry about loosing your job, worry about interest rates, you forget all your dreams, you focus on the money not on what makes you happy..... if I had my time again I would never have gone down this route!

I've only got 21 years left on the mortgage, woo! That means I'll be 52 and it'll be paid off....damn. Maybe I'd better over-pay now before sprogs arrive......

Would it be annoying if I said my rent is £1000 per year? If it's any consolation, though, your flat is very unlikely to sink.

Sadly not, I live in a money pit in commuter belt, if I sold up and moved to Scotland then I probably could..... on the plus side I've only got 15 years and then I am debt free!
