Thought so, had my Proflex 856 set up like that in about 97, it's sat back in my garage at the moment, belongs to a mate now after being stolen and recovered, (although buying it back from some scumbag doesn't really constitute a good recovery!!!!)still has the dart but the smoke is long gone, replaced by a narrower Michelin, patience and a lot of time on the laptop have turned up some new black smoke/darts from Rose bikes recently (bargain at just over a fiver each) and a set of skinwall re-issue folding smoke/dart from Germany at about £25 each so they do turn up at non exhorbitant prices now and then........

Is it still the done thing to run fat at the front and skinny at the rear or do they run same size now?

I grabbed a Dart reissue too from Germany but the beloved Smokes were long gone!! Darts still available I think.

Im not sure about current tyre trends.... all I know is they aint as knobbly!

Z-Max's are traditionally wider on the front, but I've swapped mine round on my Kili Wot 'cos I'm a fat b*stard and need the extra volume on the rear for comfort!

Recently saw new re-issue blackwall Darts in Kevlar flavour in my LBS Mercian cycles

i run both combo's at various times.....tbh the smoke is a poor front tyre, the large knobbly tread squirms and washes out on hardpack and in tyre grooves, but i never let detail get in the way, they are THE retro tyre of choice are they not?....
