There is this guy who works within the same science park as I but does not work with me and is not known to me but as for his bikes...........

He alternately shows up on either a Specialized Rockhopper Comp, early 90's, sky blue with lots of transfers and equipped with lots of high end old school kit, very nice. His other bike has me confused as its badged a PACE but is an oversized round tubed 90's looking rigid in magnesium alloy, colour is purple. Not a square section tube in sight, makes me think its not really a pace but then I know little of this mark.

Can you enlighten me ?

Sounds like a Kirk

Not a Kirk as theyre cast mag alloy, no this has fat tubes like a Cannondale.
So probably not a Pace but does seem highish end as it has lots of nice bits fitted like the Rockhopper.
Who made fat tubed Magnesium Alloy bikes ?

Cheers

There were a couple of Eastern European Mg frames imported around that time. One was Litech but can't recall if they did purple.
Either BikeMagic or SingleTrack had a Mg light weight project bike a few years ago. I think theirs was leopard or tiger paint job.

Until they started getting frames from overseas, Pace were 'square tubed'.
