Pace RC36 spring colours.

I gave some NOS RC36 springs, the box says they are hard, but are red in colour? The springs have a fair amount of grease in them. I'm now wondering if the previous owner bought hard springs for his forks when new and and these red ones are the ones from his forks?

I'm not sure myself, and it may have changed over time. I was 100% sure I had some nos rs springs in hard, as that's what it said on the sealed packet, but the wise sages of rb said colour was x-soft so go figure. Imho, they were hard, as there was no way a soft spring would support a 13st man (now much slimmer though), but it would be interesting to know what yours are, as I might have a set of the red pace springs kicking about somewhere, always assumed they were medium though.

Re:

^ What he said ^

Red = medium

Have been experimenting with getting some firmer springs made for me. Still in the testing and evaluation stages but looks very promising. If you have a local spring maker I can supply you with the specs if required.

Look so Ike medium then!

Rekiborter: it's for a project that is will probably never get round to anyway! I think the spring force for the different springs is written on the side of the box if you want it?

Re:

We measured the medium springs at 9.6 N/mm. The firmer ones I had made are 12.7 N/mm - appear to be just right for my Clydesdale proportions.

I've just found some in some forks I bought from Mr Panda, the wire is twice as thick as these, but they appear to have a small amount of red paint remaining on them too!
At least I get to try out my new fishing scales!
