I’ve an RC30 (2nd Gen) with 1” crown - if I wanted to run a 1 1/8” steerer, I assume this means getting a 1 1/8” crown?

Yes, you will need a 1 1/8” crown with a crown race collar or a 1 1/4” crown with a reducer shim seen above.

Yes, you'll need a 1-1/8" crown (or a 1-1/4" one with the shim).
Maybe see if someone will swap for your 1" one.
