I decided on Sunday that I wanted my black seat clamp to be silver, so I thought that I would give oven clear, oven pride a go at de anodizing. So I put some out into a small glass bowl and dropped in he first of the parted and came back in after 15 min and as it turns out it works very well, bit of polish to finish the job and with no adverse effects as far as I can tell.

Pictures in the link below.

You left it 15 mins  Brave.
I've got some stuff that would do it 15 sec's. :D That would have disolved the whole thing in 15 mins.

oven cleaner tends to leach the dye out of anodising rather than remove it - you can see in the pics it still has that slightly mottled anodised surface effect

The clamp had a kind of textured feel to it before in went in to the oven cleaner, it still has the same texture now. It was quite dull after rinsing with water but after buffing with a bit of autosole it turned nice and shiny. 8)

I checked on it every few minutes to see how it was progressing and gave the clamp part a bit of a scrub as I thought it was taking a bit too long.

I've stripped loads of black anno of stuff since finding out you could on here. Made a few scabby and faded black parts look much better without the black on it.

I have always used caustic soda / water to do this, but it can be pretty aggressive.

Nice to know there is a slightly less critical option.
