More Oranges have been sold with a set of RockShox on then Pace. :wink:

Without any documented proof i do find that hard to swallow,BITD RS were poo in comparison to pace

Their first decent fork was that air jobbie that came out in the mid or latish nineties

The spot Fox holds in the market these days is a good comparative compared to say manitou

Arithmetically, OrangeRetro must be right, because only very expensive builds would be sold ex-works with Pace forks and it's the lower-priced bikes that sell the most. I would guess Manitou were most often fitted, then RS.

But I'll bet most people who bought one with RS or Manitou aspired to a Pace.

Sounds not too bad as the service would have been a good chunk of that. They seem to go for £50-70 but if you needed a service straight away you'd soon get to the BIN kind of figure. Justbackdated on here is the service expert for early Pace.

You need to also consider the steerer length - 16cm is good for a head tube of c13cm, so if your head tube is longer than that, you'd need to swap steerers. There's a sticky thread on here that could help.

We're straying off topic here, but Rockshox were the OE suspension forks on Pace bikes up until the mid nineties when they swapped to Manitou. Pace (and originally Girvin) were always available as an option, but I don't think they were ever standard even on the Vit T- always an upgrade. My guess would be that there were many more RS & Manitou equipped bikes sold than Pace or Girvin.

and theres the RS in the first pic though not on any of the bikes ,they appear to be pace's :D
 
1998 was the last year for Rockshox. From 1999 Manitou were standard fitment.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the first time a bike came standard with front suspension would have been 1996 or 97 with the C16RS or X1 both of which were fitted with RS forks. I'm reasonably sure Pace were never standard equipment, only ever an option.
Even in 98 the O2 and E4 were the only hardtails to come standard with suspension.
It was 1999 (with the swap to Manitou) before the majority of frames came fitted with boingy forks (all except the Clockwork which still came with the F8).
 
Lets face it, Orange = British, Pace = British, therefore they go together very nicely, it is a match made in.. well Yorkshire. As for the law.. hmm me's don't think so. Another example of a bike which goes great with Pace is the Dynatech, but you don't see many of that match around. In all honesty, if I were to put suspension on my Clockwork, I would put on some RC35's.. but I wouldn't feel dirty if I didn't. My P7 looked cool with Manitou's!
 
Another good reason for going the Pace route, is that justbackdated can keep them as good as new for you so they're a usable option that's easily serviced with good spares supply, you can't say that for many retro forks. :wink:
