I think it could do with a remake, jsut to be contrary. As good as the first one is, I've never been a huge fan of Verhoevan and felt he handled it too lightly. I think its a fantastic SF concept and could take a much darker, deeper rendering.

With you all the way on this one. Only film to come even remotely close to Dick's short stories was Blade Runner.

But I also concur that a new version would probably not do it justice either.

Remake of Total Recall
Complete stupidity
All for money probably  is this what Hollywood has come down to,theve run out of ideas completely :?

Not a remake, but Bladerunner related: http://www.movieweb.com/news/christophe ... or-prequel

I seen stuff other week on sequel for Bladerunner that i dont mind so ling as they link it to the original and they make it well the same way they did with Tron that for me so far has set the benchmark for sequels that you had to wait years for.

But it they do what they did with the likes of Lost boys then they should never think it let alone do it that was a sequel that should have been put in the bin and never spoke of again only they didnt and went on to make a 3rd part and rumoured to already have a 4th aswell in the pipeline

I can sometimes understand remaking an old film, updating it with a modern relevance.
What I don't get is remaking recent foreign films. For some reason, other than Hollywood are too stupid to read subtitles they are remaking the Millennium trilogy, a decision they made even before the final film had been released! Madness!!

oh yeah that crappy taxi remake really gets on my nerves

luc beesons films dont need to be remade!

is what i hate also, is 'remakes' that have none or little relevenace to the orginal/original story

Agree 100%. Just look what they did to the Ealing comedies

That's always happened though, Woman in Red and 3 Men and a Baby are remakes of 70's/80's french comedies. Magnificent 7 and A Bug's Life were both remakes of Seven Samarui, and Cars is almost a direct copy of Doc Hollywood.
Oddly there is a french film that is almost identical to The Running Man but both films are respectively based on different novels, one by Stephan King.

Brokeback Mountain is a very subtle reworking of The Hitcher.
