They don’t look too crazy narrow for 90s bars, but that bend forced your hands in.

Stem mounted computer though! Ahead of her time! 💪😎
Had those bars when I bought my '92 Axis new & ditched them for a straight bar/bar end combo, as I didn't like the bends at the end. As for the computer, not stem mounted - it was the Avenir unit that had an offset clamp design that placed it over the stem. Had one & it was awesome 👍

The BMX connection is interesting. Charlie Kelly in his book Fat Tire Flyer said that while it wasn't a direct influence on their work, I think it had to be in other areas as "mountain bikes" took off.

Some BMX companies saw it coming and made the pivot, most others didn't.

Personally, in the late 70's early 80's I was full on into BMX. The first I saw or heard of this emerging trend was in the January 1980 issue of BMX Action.

Full Bore Cruisers is what the magazine titled the article, and yeah, that's Joe Breeze.

I kinda remember reading in his Sonic.net blog that, because of BMX cruiser class wheels being available in 26" and alloy, this was a huge factor in the design. Unfortunately, his page is no longer there, so I can't confirm this

That's maybe the first MTB ever built. I believe it's in the Smithsonian institute. It's very well made.
