Old Claudbutler seeks a new home

-----

among other things, Scandia was a marque employed by Monark-Crescent Bicycles - MCB

MCB models were sometimes transferred as Scandia...perchance a means of packing more product into a given market...

have not previously encountered a chainset bearing the name

More close ups to follow 😁 haven't found anything on the chainwheel. It's all a bit barn find at the moment. Claud is certainly a thing of beauty. My initial thoughts were a Durax chainset. The arms are the wrong profile though.
I forgot to say the rims are pre dimple Weinmann. Spokes were chrome plated and double butted. Look to be 15/17 gauge but I haven't measured them, mk one eyeball guess🫣

Just catching up with this thread. Good to see it ended up with GIGFY.

I know this has already been covered, but I don't think it has many hallmarks of a 1930s frame. If you ignore the 1950s componentry, the following things are inconsistent for on a 30s frame: the fork is too straight, no headclip, it has later mudguard fittings (30s ones are usually a slotted tab), dropouts are not plain steel, derailleur hanger if it had one would usually be for a Cyclo or Osgear (not a threaded Campagnolo type).

Thanks Jonny, I've dated it, it's 1951 a few pages back mate, there's a catalogue entry.

Cool, I saw that and I wasn't sure if you were sure because of the frame number. Just giving you some more evidence for it being a later frame.
It's a strange number isn't it? The 517 above the four figures could be 7th month 1951. Fairly happy it's 1951 but if anything finds anything to the contrary please post it here.
