Oh Hermes, you suck!

Had some bike parts delivered by Hermes today, the driver was even kind enough to take a photo of the parcel left in its 'safe space';

1) No package was delivered to my address
2) I don't have a 'safe space' registered with Hermes
3) No driver had appeared on the house's CCTV to alert me

Popped onto their website's 'chat' thing and after explaining the situation; "I am unable to contact the driver and we will update you within the next 28 hours"....useless!

So, I turned myself into Miss Marple and, armed with the photo, headed out into the rain to scope my local area. Lo and behold the package was left at some random house at the other end of the road.

Hermes are useless.

could still get them to compensate you :) and i bet that looked dodgy, taking parcels from someone elses house :shock: :lol:

This has been shown to be the case many, many, many times, on countless forum threads worldwide.

I still use them now & then though, I like the not knowing if/when the parcel will arrive, and the ensuing "treasure hunt" :lol:

Ha! I gave their door a knock, expained the issue to the house owner and all was fine.

My rules.

Cheap small/mediumstuff under say £20 myhermes
Stuff I care about of any size Royal Mail signed for or parcelforce 48
Big stuff senditnow.

Works well. Especially if somebody won’t post as Hermes pick up cheaply. My local guy is properly local and very good.

Re:

Your Hermes experience really depends on who your delivery person is. We live out in the sticks and know the Hermes lady (Linda) very well. She is excellent..I guess in bigger places you get more than one delivery person and that's when the trouble starts

Likewise. My Hermes guy Gareth will text me if I’m not in.

Parcel services are all down to the individuals at the final end of the chain. My local Royal Mail postie retired earlier this year after 47 years on the route! The service went to shlt. I’ve been in court to fight against undelivered NIPs and reminders, had neighbours receiving my mail, I’ve received mail address to people in a different STREET.
High turnover of staff in these roles due to poor wages and zero benefits, is systematic, regardless of the company involved. Christmas is coming and it’ll only get worse.

Re:

Same here, Hermes is a postcode lottery and mine is terrible.
Small and under 2kg = Royal Mail
Medium = UPStoday
Large = parcelforce dropped off at depot or post office.

Re:

I've never had a failure with Hermes but only tend to use them for small items to business addresses, Royal Mail occasionally lose an item for 3 weeks then it turns up but consistently reliable experienced no theft.

I used to swear by TNT but having high value items getting stolen (laptops and phones) sours the taste, only happens at the Thetford depot for some reason.

UPS are consistently very good for me but someone will have some horror stories.
