Ofmega Sintesi pedals.

Have just bought a pair of these interesting pedals from a very unlikely place! Plastic and alloy construction, aero style and light: appear well made with plastic coated toeclips.

In excellent condition - I don't remember these BITD, I guess they're 1970s/1980s...any comments on these pedals welcome.

Pedals without clips in pic.

Thanks, Jon.

Yep, part of the Ofmega plastic / Mistral range destined for the US market IIRC.

The Pink Mistral rear mech still makes me shudder LOL

Re:

Thought you might be my man Shaun(!)...are they any good though*, were they rated BITD?

Cheers, Jon.

*seem to be technically good although not as jewel like as some of my Campag pedals.

The pedals I can remember from the reps so they will be late 70's, the rest of the Mistral kit came later in the early 80's when I was a "visitor" at the bike shop during the holidays helping out.

We didn't stock them as the Importers probably wouldn't bring them in. If the importers thought they couldn't make any money on a line they would not bring them in the country or simply discontinue them. They were pretty powerful BITD as you couldn't get stuff apart from through the official importers (or their distributors). They even gave a RRP which you would be expected to sell them at and they got shirty if you discounted. The box even came with the price printed on sometimes. They tolerated a "club discount" and Raleigh let us discount as we were a five star dealer. There wasn't much they could do apart from not supply you are Resale Price Maintenance was illegal by then

If memory serves the Importers of Ofmega were R J Chicken and sons and a lot of stuff the reps brought round were never available, including those pedals most likely.

Ofmega quality was always quite good when you compared it to other non Campag / Shimano / Suntour offerings such as Gian Robert.

I had a pair in the early 80s on my Peugeot, i think they came as standard, the clips would adjust for shoe size by sliding up and down.

Re:

I had some Sintesi pedals (all black) in the early 90s before I went clipless; nice light pedals and well made, from memory.

Could be worth checking the bearings are greased, as IIRC lots of Ofmega & other italian kit was assembled using magnets So didn"t need grease to keep bearings etc. in place. If the pedals have had little use, they may not have been stripped & lubricated. When I meched on the Pro scene we always stripped, checked; & lubed on all the new kit we received, so we knew what was what.
