Offering early to mid 60s Gazelle roadbike
Very nice Gazelle oldy showing lots of honest old world quality. The frame is built using full ‘Reynolds 531 butted tubes, forks and stays’. It is fully chromed and that finish is partially left bare and partially painted. There is a modest amount of pin striping around the lugs. Drop outs are supplied by Campagnolo. Model 1010. The rear brake cable guides are brazed on. All other guides and bosses are clamp on.
The Gazelle pre dates the Champion Mondial range of bicycles and is the oldest Gazelle racer I’ve seen. The graphics are of an earlier Gazelle style than the style we know of the Champion Mondial era.
Components
Campagnolo Record cranks
Campagnolo Record pedals
Campagnolo Record rear derailleur
Campagnolo Record front derailleur
Campagnolo Record shifters
Campagnolo Record <C> headset
Campagnolo Record bottom bracket
Campagnolo Record seatpost
Brooks seat
Titan Luxe stem
Maes bar
Weinmann Vainqueur centre pulls
Weinmann Vainqueur levers with quick release
Iku speedometer
All those specs are for as far I know fully authentic and period correct. The wheels are of a later era: The Shimano 600 hubs are laced to polished Mavic rims with fresh Avocet skinwall tyres fitted.
Sizing
Seattube 59cm c-t
Toptube 560mm
Condition
It is an almost 50 years old bicycle and given that age it looks very well. Only serious cosmetic flaw is that halfway the toptube the chrome has chipped giving chance to a little surface rust. Keep is greasy and it’s fine. The bike is more than a display item only. The Gazelle can be enjoyed on the roads too. I would recommend a servicing of the bearings. Nothing feels indexed or rough, but grease is sitting in there for probably a long time.
