odd one, Pacific cycles

Nope, they were a kind of budget supplier that sold direct in the States. They did do some higher specced models though which were good vfm and usually scored pretty well in the tests.

I think.

Someone else on here that was inside the industry back in the early 90's might remember the specifics on Pacific an correct me. I think at one time Pacific did have a factory in Taiwan and were one of the early major manufacturers in China. I believe Chris Hornung (Pacific US who won the bidding on the GT/Schwinn Bankruptcy) was an actual investor in the Pacific China factory venture which was unheard of at the time for a foreigner to have ownership in a mainland factory.

It's a brand that pops up here in Sweden from time to time. Don't know anything about them though, apart from the fact that their bikes are usually 'copies'.

The one in beepbeep's picture is, I think, the Mountain Expert II. When i bought my first "proper" mountain bike in 1991/2 it was a toss up between that and a Trek 7000. The Pacific had just had a favourable review in MBUK, priced around £600.
