Obree

Exactly. It's a replica of the real Hour Record bike. Ie a failure.

But you'd be hard pushed to work this out from the ad detail.

It didn't 'win' or 'break' anything. Haines seems to be breaking a lot of bad wind in the press though.

I contacted Haines about the ambiguity in his advert - he claims that he is informing bidders that this was indeed only a back up bike. If this is really the case why not say so explicity in the advert detail.

He was quite rude about Graeme and clearly is bitter and unhappy about the money he 'lost'. As with any professional athlete Graeme was free to choose who wild manage and advise him. I think it was astute to get rid of Haines when he did.

I'll not repeat all of the things he said about Graeme but here's a sample to give you a flavour of the man selling a very small piece of cycling history:

'I was helping him when EVERYONE considered him a circus act'

OH REALLY...?

Bit of a pantomime going on with the sale of this bike.

I just read the Scotsman article, he sounds like a completely odious guy. Holding a grudge for 20 years. Sad act.

I've got a Boots voucher and packet of unopened polos for it.
Pretty much what a plastic replica of the bike which ACTUALLY broke the record is worth.

Hard to believe that even though this wasn't 'the bike' the record was broken on that it reached the £10k the vendor was asking for

Aye but only an 18 feedback new bidder. Good luck getting the money! I'll believe it when it doesn't come back on eBay in a month ;)
