Obree

Whoever bid it up (if genuine. ..) was a bit of a mug. Shouldve let it sweat at £5k then offer the seller a lower cash price after the sale ended.

There's something fishy............and I don't mean the content of Baldrick's trousers.

I think he has a mate who bid up in the hope that a real buyer would go even higher, or is that the cynic in me?

I think you're spot on. That 18 feedback buyer accounts for 54% of the bids. He's probably hoping to offload it into the nearest high bidder which was 8 grand.

I've never seen an eBay sale go from £5300 to nearly double that in 90 secs.
It just doesn't happen. I also saw that he was using a copyright image from a leading London image house. Their online rate is £82 a day. .. Oops!

Fishy as a ripe tin of sardines.

Personally don't see anything fishy. It's not the first time bids go crazy in the last few seconds with all the snipers and sniper software. The reserve price was widely published so most people knew the score what was required to get it. A low 18 feedback is not at all a measure of a genuine buyer; it's more a measure of activity on Ebay without knowing more details.

I will say though, this auction reminds me of this one http://my.opera.com/badmadcyclist/blog/ ... 11-on-ebay .... also went for a jaw dropping amount, the iconic frame had no known history, about a dozen were made, and as far as I know hasn't resurfaced. Classic case that the value is ultimately what someone is willing to pay.

If the buyer is looking at this post, I've got a Sachs chain for sale. A bit of rust...I mean patina, low miles, but period correct. £250 and it's yours.

Yeah I've got Chris Boardmans water bottle from Bordeaux.
Yours for 5000 euro.

I still wouldn't be surprised to see this resurfacing in a few months. Who in their right mind would pay 10k for the 'also ran' replica bike of the real record breaking thing.

Something not quite right here though. I've watched several high end memorabilia sales like this before and the most they pick up in bids is about 5% in the last hour.

100% jump? Nah......

I would imagine that the high bidder may not pay up after reading that! He should have waited until the deal was completed before making comments like that. If it's re-listed, will anyone bid now?

what a p!sh poor manager

And a pretty incompetent businessman too. If he ever does relist it he'll only get sarcasm bids now.

I wonder if he's paid that £85 a day (plus vat) for using that image bank of Obree at Hamar from Offside Photography. I think the the original was taken by L'Equipe who licensed it to Offside. L'Equipe aren't known for being shy about pursuing copyright infringement.

I wonder if Offside know about it.... ;)
