alot of money for a plastic copy of the hour record bike

Thought it was steel with steel fairings. Nonetheless, it's not the one that clinched the record.

Realistically what you'd be buying is a replica of the actual hour record bike. The ad is very misleading, in stating it is 'one of the hour bikes'. There can be only one actual record breaking bike This one is just a back up. So essentially the seller is being economical with the truth, and that's being polite about it.

As a replica of the real thing I'd say it's real value was only just into four figures.

Perhaps someone should contact the seller to alert him of his potentially misleading description of the item. I think the word 'Replica' should feature heavily in the wording.

Here is the original advert copy:

'One of the 2 bikes used in the historic hour record ride, used in Hamar Oslo beating the legendary Francesco Moser's record of 51-15. Back in 1993 as the photos show the bike is in very good order having only been ridden in training and once for 1 hour,it has been on my boardroom wall for 10 yrs and then in secure storage facility.

Clearly this bike was never used in anger. It was perhaps ridden for a few laps warm up.

It was emphatically NOT used in breaking Moser's hour record as the bicycle was never raced, nor performed in competition of any sort.

It's a replica. That and nothing more.

In much the same way I've got a replica Lance Armstrong Trek, which is worth perhaps 5% of the value of the original Tour Winning bike.

:?

...but it's not a replica. It only vaguely resembles the form of the Old Faithful. It's simply a different bike altogether. I think anyone seriously bidding would suss out that it was used on the first attempt, and not the
second which clinched the record.

Hmmmm... I'm not so sure as 70% of the bids come from bidders with 4 and 8 feedback respectively. Either newbies or shill bids (it does happen)

I have just contacted Graeme about the matter. I expect he will take things further.

I wonder if Generalised will buy it...if they haven't got one already...or sue whoever over whatever

Yeah this Haines guy sounds like a bitter and twisted old goat. It's pure misrepresentation to say this is an Hour Record breaking bike - it's just not. It's a back up bike, which Graeme discarded as inferior to his own design, which DID break the world hour record.

Bit of a charlatan I think.

if I recall correctly from the book, this bike was made from carbon fibre by Mike Burrows, an exact dimensional replica of old faithful. the original reason for it's manufacture was that under UCI regulations, to have attempt the 1hr record you had to have a spare bike.

I believe this bike was used in the original failed attempt, then Obree used old faithful the next morning to break the record.

It is pretty cool, but canny surely be worth £5K let alone £10K.. imo
