NR/SR Record brake lever hood replacements

Wow, those look fantastic. Those levers look the business. An unscrupulous individual would flog them on fleabay as NOS. I'm not quite such a purist as you guys. I'd settle for a less expensive generic pair if they look halfway decent and fit ok.

On a similar note, anyone know if there are replacements available for the little black rubber bumper thingy at the top of the caliper that prevents the front brake from accidentally damaging the downtube?

Yes, they're not bad and do the job. The actual levers though are quite scratched but I look on it as 'patina'.

The brake adjuster rings are regularly on sale on e-bay at around £3 a pair?

Thanks, but I don't mean the rubber ring on the adjuster barrel. I mean the tiny little black rubber thingy that's at the top back of the front caliper arm, where the adjuster barrel slots into the arm. I'll see if I can dig up a photo later. Beautiful morning, I'm off for a ride. :D

bodged rubber thingy

Nicked this photo from lfgss. The messy little black thingy under the adjuster barrel is somebody's badly bodged version of the original rubber thingy. If you look in an old Campagnolo catalogue, the original part is 2043.

whoops, didn't get the photo to attach. here's the linky:

you can see the thingy in the last picture.

They were on all the original Record brakes. I remember them well. Probably impossible to source a NOS or repro replacement.

I've ordered a pair of generic hoods from the lovely people at Loose Screws. £16 including int'l airmail 1st class postage.

Will report back here when they arrive in case anyone's interested.

I worked in a bike shop selling campag stuff in the 70's and don't remembner anything like that........I've got two sets of brakes, one with straight QR's and one with the safety bulge in the QR and the back of the adjuster arm is smooth.

Looking at the later ones now (in my hand) I would have expected the larger rubber adjuster to hit the frame first.

Maybe they were "extra" or for later brakes....

The part (2043) appears in the exploded diagrams of the brakes in both the 1974 and the 1984 catalogues. It's like a tiny little black rubber dot. It was just a bit of added protection for when you were doing something like servicing the headset and had the cable adjuster off but caliper still attached to the fork.

I sold a pair with it a few years ago and then just got another pair recently that's missing the bit but has the little hole for where it fits into the arm.

For the die-hard purist, this must be the holy grail of spare parts to go searching for.

I have the little rubber bumper on my 1985 Super Record front brake. I always assumed they were a standard Campag fitment on all their brakes. Just looked at Campyoldy and Nigel doesn't have any listed in his spares section which would be my first port of call for anything like that.

Mark.

I have a pair of original 'no name' calipers and a pair of later Record ones with the 'flat' QR's and neither have any indication of there having been a 'bump rubber' behind the cable adjuster hole.
