rBoTM November RBotM - Theme - Tandems and Trikes - Enter Now!!!!!

road Bike of The Month
I don't know, but the wheel was very heavy. I did fit it with a Heavy schawalbe marathon tyre . As it was . A reet PIA to disconnect the brake torque arm, brake cable , hub gear connector and undo the bolts on the axel . The trike would not be a lot heavier than a Delta trike if if was fitted with a conventional, caliper brake , and no internal hub gears . But that one was designed as a shopping, low mileage trike . The brakes are fantastic and it is very easy to place through tight spots . Most cyclists and non cyclists, new to trike find a tadpole easier to ride than a Delta to begin with.
Wonder why novices find the tadpoles easier?

I think it's because they can see the front wheels , and know their on some thing a bit weird. They can see it heading toward the kerb , due to the cambers on the road . And just steer it away . On a delta, it looks a normal bike, looking forward from the saddle .I think the brain keeps telling them to lean
to steer it . But you have to physical steer a trike . I have had mates off farms ,who were used to old honda 3 wheel farm bikes . They can manage a delta Trike OK. But prefer the Tadpole. Having a sloping down tube it's very easy to hop on and off as well . Not very scientific ,but all l can think of .

That makes sense actually 👍

Here’s our tandem ….. bought when we got married from ‘bay as a wedding gift.
Serviced at LMNH and ridden not very often since - one side is faded from sun and it has the most strange collection of “club” pieces. Note the ‘80s Durace mech and campy some bar end shifters used for downshifters. It must have been repaired with the plate on the rear. Very fast and fun when you get going…… we did cruise around Regent’s Park at 28mph in jean’s annoying all the aero tt guys. There is a name on one side….. interested to know if anyone knows anything…
