not impressed

I am glad we are a tolerant society.

We cannot criticize the government for taking us into an illegal war on the one hand, yet on the other prevent those who disagree with the actions of our government, including those who have suffered as a result of them, from venting their spleens.

So if we are to accept the principal that criticizing the government is indicative of a healthy democracy, we have to place as few limitations on that as possible.

It is actually a tiny number of people, in the scheme of things.

Perhaps the media who choose to highlight this tiny vocal minority; who give them a much greater hearing than any balanced ear would afford them, are the problem.

I would be willing to demonstrate against these 'people', but i'd just end up being tarred with the same brush as the English Defence League.

Unfortunately we've made a rod for our own back with the previous PC brigade politics creeping in. There is nothing that can be done to silence these awful awful people.

These events make me pray that Karma truly will exact its delicious revenge.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Might seem old fashioned to a lot on here. Was just something your grandparents knew about. These words are heard every Remembrance Day. Hard to know what they actually mean until you have experienced it yourself. We as a society has been relatively lucky with no 'major' total war conflicts since '45. At the grand old age of 39, I count myself having been unlucky three times. The Poppy is a symbol of remembrance for those that gave their lives not only for their country but also for their mates.

By allowing so called British Citizens to demonstrate in such a manner is a damn shame. By allowing them to get off with minor public order offences is criminal.

By the way 'having your country invaded' is a joke. No doubt the people demonstrating are British passport holders and therefore this United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland is their country not Afghanistan or Iraq. However if they hold such strong beliefs then perhaps they should be accommodated.

The western christian based world got really upset at an American pastor who threatened to burn the Islamic Holy Book and eventually stopped him. We do not believe in antagonising other religious faiths, least ways the thinking portion of our society do.

Islam should be aware how much damage they do to their own cause by allowing behaviour such as this hurtful despicable act from members of their faith. The powers within islam must put in more effort to prevent this and feel the outrage we felt toward the idiot Pastor

Very good point. Of course - this would make for a far less interesting news story so assuming it's the case, we might never get to hear about it anyway. I wonder how many in the Middle East were aware of church criticism of the idiot Pastor.

Every religion/political alignment has an idiot fringe which ends up on the front page. S..t leaves a nasty smell even when you've washed it off.

This hatred needs to be trodden on very firmly.

It's a close call in a thread that's an embarrassment to the human race, but the above quote wins hands down for me. It manages to say so much with so little. Almost Zen. Quote of the month for me although

The "and they wonder why we invade there countries" one ran it close. I had to disqualify the Rambo crap as it was just too scary. Is that what the proud tradition of our highly trained and disciplined army has come to?

Good game though.

All joking aside.. That is sick.. and they wonder why we invade there countries...

Burning poppies v having your country invaded.

Yes, well done, that sounds eminently fair.

Arr, but there is a link in that, for our armed forces are out in a war zone now fighting an enemy who uses the opium trade to equip itself. The land is rife with poppy fields, yet the allied forces are not allowed to destroy them where they find them, something to do with it reducing the farmers to poverty or some such tripe, compensate them for their losses then, but whilst the poppy fields are left alone, there will always be a problem with Opium and its derivitive heroin, not to forget of course leaving the crops will undoubtedly re supply the enemy.

Destroy the poppy fields and it will hit two targets with one half brick.

But as we remember the sacrifices made by others for our and the toe rags that burned the poppies on armistice day's freedom, may we also remember those fighting in a land of poppies today, a sad but true link.

Hey that's an idea, and a fitting retaliation which anyone can understand, burn the poppy fields because certain people of the same ill thoughts chose to dishonour our dead on our remembrance day.
