NOS

To me, NOS means it really has to be in it's original packaging, is that right do you think? If it was "New" it would be in it's packaging!

It should mean brand new never been sold or fitted, been sitting on a shop shelf / in a box in a warehouse all these years.

Some people use it when they have something they bought new years ago and never fitted - it really is just like it came out of the shop. Not technically "New old stock" as it was sold and probably opened and handled... but the part is the same condition.

Lots of people use it when something has been fitted / used briefly but still looks like new. The minute a part is fitted, it should loose its NOS tag IMHO.

Hence you should generally ignore it and make your own mind up about the parts condition. Like when someone advertises a car in mint condition- you still need to make your own mind up and look for blue smoke....
