Thanks GIGFY. Putting mine up for sale has made me think about this a bit and I’ve come to the conclusion that there is still a market for quality old stuff (my Dave Lloyd frame walked out of the door for asking price), but the bike world has splintered into so many niche trends that you have to be pitch things carefully.
E.g. no one seems to want traditional British drop bar tourers, but French/Japanese inspired Randos have a following. However, that ‘scene’ is all about personal details and the build journey, so you’ll never get your money back on a finished bike, nor likely sell it as you built it.
The frames on these Raleigh 708s are super & rightly have a following - they can be built in all sorts of ways with great tyre clearance and 135mm rear ends: but taking the NOS one above - the frame is fab, prolly £300 fab? But the rest of the build is a bunch of stuff that no one is going to get excited about and gets in the way of any niche build - be it Gravel, Rando, Bike Packer, Expedition, etc.
All that not withstanding, the pre production angle on this one is interesting - I don’t recall seeing that type of decal or colour before.
