Non Retro Tyre Advice needed.

Hi All

I just bought a 2008 Specialized Allez Triple with what looks like a pair of shot tyres.

Can you suggest a suitable 25mm tyre for me. I'm quite new to road riding so forgive my ignorance.

I'll want something mid range and durable. Preferable slick centre with a slight tread to the outside.

I tend to use 20's but I have found Rubino Pro's to be excellent on my Basso.

Most places have them in a 25 and they are seriously well priced.

Tread does nothing on road bike tyres, so don't bother unless you are riding in mud. Depending on how beaten-up your roads are, try Continental Ultra Gatorskins. They are light, fast and tough as anything. Where I live a decent set of race tyres last about 700 miles before being ripped to bits by flints. Gators get 2,500+ miles.

For something a bit sportier, try Conti GP 4Seasons.

GP 4 seasons are a really good tyre but maybe a bit pricey for mid range. I do reckon though that money spent on tyres and tubes goes very far though. Schwalbe Durano's are another to look out for. Also hunt around for Michelin Pro Race 4's mostly available in 23 but a very good tyre for under £20 an end.

Pro 4 race can be a little delicate, I use Pro 4 service course on most of my bikes and just spent last week riding the wonderful single track roads of Mull with no problems at all.

Conti GP Classics? Slightly cheaper here & there.. Slick centre & slight 'tread' & last pretty much forever.

Depends on what you want to spend if your budget is tight Vittoria Zaffiro with PRB (punture protection ). In 23/25/28c under £20 a pair very good training tyre.
