Non BSO road bike at Tesco for £65

Re:

Here's mine. All I've done is de-stickered/de-crapped some of it, taken the toe clips off (too small for my feet) and added some better brake blocks as the hills around here are too scary to be tackled without proper brakes.

what you took off it mate, the forks are very poor imo

Not very much that I haven't mentioned already tbh. The plastic thing on the chainset, and pedal reflectors I think.

The forks do the job, but aren't anything special certainly. My view is not to replace/upgrade anything on this until it breaks/wears. It's no longer a cheap run about if I do - and personally, I don't feel it is a bike worth upgrading. If you were going to do that you'd probably start from a different place price wise (at least £3-400 bike).

Plus I've got it working well now. Gears shift well, brakes stop well also - and it runs fast with no noise and I don't have to keep adjusting things. I might try my layback seat post from another bike on it as I generally like to be a little further back than I can currently get on this.

I was tempted to upgrade the chainset, but the existing one has alloy cranks and the rings don't bend under pressure so it might as well stay. I've got a load of cheap Tesco chains from a previous deal which providing I replace it often enough should mean the gears last a decent amount of time. Oh, and a spare Carnaby which I can strip for parts/build up if necessary.

I'd bung that chainset as soon as - it is really cheap and nasty. It is very likely to bend after one overshift.

Yes, I have a brand new triple MTB chainset that would do the job nicely - providing it's not going to mess up the chainline and I could get the granny/middle ring gear change working well. A job for rainy weekend perhaps.

I'm not likely to take the existing one out of the lower ring as I neither go fast downhills, and the hills around here are too steep to go up on the big ring.

Re:

put my 500ex chainset on and it stuck out further but luckily the kids trek singlespeed im building has a smaller bb so swapsies will be happening later lol

Someone at a car boot was trying to sell a Claud Butler with the Tourney STi/ mechs for £175. I politely turned him down ignoring the 'I paid £500 for that' comment.

Be interested in seeing what it looks like, and how it rides once you've finished your mods.
