No tubes rocks!

I have some Stans rims on order, got the sealant comming too, just need some suitable new tyres.

Apparently the only downside is they are a bugger to set up in terms of getting the tire on the rim and then inflating it.

I shall report back once I have had a play.

It does look impressive to be fair....it would stop the thorns of death round here no problem :0)

what would be the total cost of setting that up on a bike?

You don't need "19 sharp nails" - just go for a ride on pretty much any Greek track or path. I lost count of the number of big thorns that I pulled out of my tyres over a seven week period. A lot of the thorns don't stay in the tyre, of course. All you get is a very slight air loss and that little bead of sealant. I use 60ml of Stan's per wheel.

Don't bother with slime tubes, I've tried them under the same conditions and they're crap by comparison (ie, they still punture and go flat..)
The smaller thorns are still in the tyres, over that seven week period I didn't have one flat, whereas with tubes I'd have been repairing punctures every five minutes (or it feels like it anyway).

The other benefit is that you can run lower pressures with no fear of snakebite punctures.

Two 20" Schwalbe inner tubes (for ghetto tubelesss conversion) - £10.
Schwalbe because they make presta tubes with removable cores....
1 pint Stan's - £10

Total cost 20 squids....

I've ran Stans for a couple of years now, great system. Easier to set up than Joes no flats or the bontrager system. I've got them on the 575 and the P20. Looking at getting another set of stans rims for the lastest toy

could you explain how you do it ?

with traditional Stans , you need a air compressor to put the tyres on the rims , and the whole kit cost about £65 for a bike .

I have been using inner tubes with slime in them , and found them excellent . bought them last year before MM and the lasted a year with no puncture . only downside is that they weight a ton .
