I'd check with Trek on a warranty job on that, least they should do is give you a new frame cheap.

Would be nice but I can't see it happening. I would have thought the frame is way too old to still be in warranty, and some time in the past the bike was stolen and recovered. Whilst in the hands of the bikenappers the frame number on the BB shell was ground off, making it look really dodgy.

OK, since it was stolen, and recovered, do you have a police report or anything to state that you owned it and recovered it back in that condition?

If so, I would contact Klein and give the warranty a try too, as Carston suggested.

Cheers for the replies dudes. The frame is currently with the couriers on the way to Vernon Barker for a repair. Fingers crossed he won't take too long with my baby...

It's back!!!!

Got the frame through this morning and all looks good. He's massively reinforced the whole drop out area, which is good because it looked worryingly weak before.

Now I get to rebuild it, which is the fun part.

Usually repainting a Klein would be out of the question, but since this one is a single colour and not a funky fade finish, I don't mind too much. Anyway, the paint is trashed where he had to weld it. I've got a couple of litres of VW Aqua Blue metallic kicking about at home which is left over from a spray job on my old Golf Cabrio. It's an awesome colour which flips between blue and purple, so it should look good.

I'll start a thread on the rebuild project so you guys can see the progress and the results.

Good!

If you have not painted, mount the wheel and check alignment, and don't ride it for a week.

any pics? i just got a '99 frame today and was researching what frame it was and found this thread......but upset about no pics!!!

clearly it is a treklein but the warranty part interests me

does trek warranty original kleins as they own the company or just the trekleins?

Even if it is repairable, you can replace this frame for less than £100 if you just keep an eye on the well known auction sites.

I would sell it on as it stands, someone who can repair it, or thinks they can, may pay £30 for it.

I wish I would read before posting!

I do hope your repair holds.

My feeling is that as frames get worn they start to make noises to let you know. Where the costs run close, I always favour moving on, but of course you could have ended up with one that had other problems. :)

Top quality necroposting gentlemen! That particular frame was sold in 2008. Since then I've had a Trailstar, a Klein Pulse Pro, an Inbred and finally a Klein Adroit Race.
