hi I have just bought a 1990s raleigh m-trax 1000 l, it is in ok condition i think. i am wondering if it is worth doing up. I bought it because I am wanting a lighter bike for road use, as my over sized MTB is a little too heavy. so any advice would be great. I would also need advice on where to buy the parts for this bike (without breaking the bank) The other question is if i do it up and don't get on with it would it have any value to sell on. Thanks in advance

i have uploaded more pics but need 5 posts inorder to post the links to them so if needed please DM me

Welcome Max :D

Looks in tidy condition does your Raleigh. Best place to buy upgrades is the for sale section on here imo. Sell on wise..... Don't think you'll be able to retire as the later Raleigh's don't seem to go for very much. You're the only person that'll know if it's worth doing up. Is it much lighter then your current bike? Do you like how it rides? What sort of upgrades do you fancy?

hi
not had a ride on it since i have a broken arm due to a mtb crash due to a teenager not looking where he his running. the only reason i asked about the resale is cause if i try to do it up so i can ride it and it doesnt suite me then the wife will complain when i sell it for less :)
i only want to buy bits that will make it run nice today for me if you get me

They are good bikes for the money, but they dont tend to go very high. You wont have a massive resale value, so buy parts as you wish and if you want to resale put the original bits back on and sale the bits you upgraded seperately. Thats what I would suggest if I were you.

good advice mate thanks. I was only worried about putting loads into it only to sell at a loss, the wife would be really happy with me then :). I would only sell it if i couldnt get on with it so we will see.

Hi Max

I think you have quite a tidy bike there and would leave it as it is

to be honest if you put a load of decent kit on it it wouldn't really raise the price or value other than at sale time people would say..you would get more if you strip it

clean it..get it running and ride it..it looks a great example
