New Frame is allegedly coming soon -- ordered on a preorder and they're having some teething pains. It's dark red, big, steel randonneur style. Canti brakes, Standard BB, 1 1/8 headset, QR at both ends, Shifter bosses.
Now I've got to decide on parts. But first, color. I'm thinking silver. Black is common these days. My last two road bikes are full of black parts. Gold, too close to a certain American Football Team colors. Silver is classy. But difficult to source.
The non-negotiables are wide tires, fenders, and a compact crank (46/30). I'd consider 44/28 or 42/26, but those are nearly impossible to find. Going to the parts bin for the campy aero seatpost. Nitto 135 handlebars.
The real question is shifters/drivetrain.
* I've got two potential donor bikes with 10sp 105 or 11sp Rival. The drawback -- they're black.
* I'd consider Shimergo. 9sp 13-28 on the back, either silver 105/ultegra or not silver XTR for a rear mech. I've ridden 8sp Sachs/Campy shifters and really liked them.
* Modern? Condor has some campy centaur parts that might work.
* Bar ends? A definite fallback choice. I've got them on the tandem, and had them on a previous 1x cx turned road bike. The cables up front are messy though. Not sure how to deal with a front rack/bag and the loopy cables.
* Downtubes. Haven't ridden them in forever. Well, 35 years anyway. Definitely the old school style. Would like to try them again, but don't know how long they'd last.
