Morning all,

I’ve just joined up, and thought I’d say hi. I’m Paul, 38, and just getting back into Retro MTB’s after many many years out of the saddle!

I had been watching all the usual Retro MTB pages and eBay bay searches etc, and a rather nice 97 Stumpjumper came up for sale, at what I thought was a fair price for a little used bike with a decent spec...so I thought I’d dip my toe, and I bought it!

Rides really well, looking forward to getting out on it next weekend!

It’s mostly original, apart from the grips and pedals.

Thoughts and opinions on my new purchase appreciated.

Cheers.

That looks like a very nice example for your first retro ride. I love these frames. They ride so well.

Congrats on a lovely bike and welcome to the site.

Be warned... your addiction has only just begun! Haha

Welcome to RB, enjoy the ride and watch it as it becomes an obsession;)

Love the Stumpjumper, you have chosen a beauty.

Evening all,

Thanks for the warm welcome. Just been out for a few easy miles on the old girl. Rides really well. Feels light and nimble, forks working as they should etc. I’m taking it to the South Downs this weekend, but will probably strip and regrease everything next week.

The bike is in great nick, considering it has had some use..there are a few areas of oxidation on the frame, which has lifted the paint in places. I’m told this is common on aluminium frames?

I’ve never owned a Stumpjumper before, but can see what the fuss is about. Very understated, but rides brilliantly.

I was a little dubious that it might be too big for me (18 inch frame, I’m 5’7), but it feels fine, however I wouldn’t want one any bigger.

I will keep you all posted with any questions/updates. Glad you like it, and nice to hear it’s an unusual colour scheme!

Here’s a pic of it tonight, with the ladies Kona Koa.
