New Fork for my Klein 1992 Attitude

Hi

I'm Roger from Switzerland and once somewhen in 1992/93 fell in love with Kleins, especially the paint jobs and the MC1. since the bikes where quite expensive i never managed to buy a new one, but was lucky to get a beautiful 20" sunrise linear fade attitude with XTR Components and titanium wheels.
When Rock Shox became popular i was os stupid to exchange the original fork with a JUDY DH. But i was whise enough to keep the original fork aside.
then years passed by and i moved out from home, but still left some stuff at my parents home, the fork as well. this was 6 years ago. Now i moved to my own house and hung to bike at the wall for getting a bit more storage room in my garage. one day in december i noticed some oil on the ground and it came from the rock shox. That's when i decided to replace the shox with the original fork, because i always loved the straight fork shape.

but then the shock! i did not find the fork at my parents home! even searching for several hours and turning everything upside down, has not brought the fork up to light again.

my father must have thrown it away, because he thought what shall i do with a single fork when there is no corresponding bike around?

well you can imagine how disappointed i was. so i thought buying one on ebay would be possible, but you all know how hard it is to get one!
i also was shocked when i noticed the high prices for the forks.

since i did not find a original fork, i decided to go for a 1991 fork, and repaint it. so i called my local paint shop and asked how much the paintjob would be. he told me that the problem are the colors, since neon colors are prohibited by law here in switzerland, it was not possible to repaint a fork to sunburst linear fade.

fortunately there was James ( i stole your picture ;-) ) and Jon who helped me with the fork and repainting it. Jon will send the fork somewhen in the next days to me and i will replace the Rock Shox with the almost original fork ;-) will still look better that the Shox.
i guess i will also change tires, but this will be to be decided.

some pictures from my bike and the almost finished fork

great job Jon

Hi Roger,

'prohibited by law here in switzerland'

This is crazy!

Is it because someone might paint a car in neon and it would cause offense?

Or something chemical maybe?

Neon paint is hard to get here though and expensive!

J

Hi Jon

It is prohibited because of environmental issues. In germany the laws are even harder, mostly only paint which is waterbased is allowed. I guess in a short time also here in switzerland

Hallo Florian

Danke fürs kompliment, das bike wird mich wohl bis ins grab begleiten respektive zum Erbstück. Also werde ich es noch eine ganze weile fahren . Ich habe sehr viel Spass daran und möchte gar kein neues bike :-)

Hi Roger, thats going to look so much better with the rigids 8) glad to have helped, now just get some nice amberwall tyres

Hi James

I hope i get some amberwall tyres or other stylish looking ones. These are definatley going zo be trown away, also because they are not comfortable.

I had a red amberwall tyres for several years and they looked great, unfortunately the manufacturers are producing more and more blackones

Fork arrived

Thanks to Jon and James, my new Fork arrived today!

And the result is beautiful! awsome!
and the color match is really great! i should send my MC1 Bar to Jon too, because it has faded a bit ;-)

i will go to the Bike dealer this week and request him to change the fork and the bearings.

i guess this will be the only 1992 Attitude in Sunburst Linear Fade with a cornered rigid fork ;-)

who knows maybe someday the original fork will be around

can't wait to have it changed

once again thanks James, Jon
