New (edit ... old!!) cycling discovery!

Lollipops

Retro Guru
I apologise to anyone who already knows this place, but I never knew it even existed until last weekend!!

It's the National Cycle Museum in Llandrindod Wells, Mid Wales, and it's really cute!! Lovely little place, loads of old bikes, most of which put the "retro" bikes on here to shame for how old they are!! Lol!!

They've got everything, starting from the 1800s when they were still working out how bikes were actually supposed to work through to Chris Boardman's carbonfibre thingy creation from a couple of years ago!!

Even if you're not seriously into really old bikes, but more interested in the engineering side of it .. like me ... then it's still definitely worth a visit!! They've also got a ton of the old biking paraphernalia, including calcium carbonate summat or other that they used to use for lights, pin badges from all the biking clubs in the UK dating back years, Victorian biking shoes ... I could go on for hours!!

So, the upshot is .... if you're ever near Mid Wales then give this place a visit, it doesn't take long to go round, it's fascinating, and you'll be supporting the saving of the whole history of cycling!!

Here's some of my favourite pics of REALLY retro bikes... Lol!! ....

I'm sorry IDB1, I thought retro did mean old, or maybe I'm just too young!! Lol!! I was more interested in the actual engineering of the really old bikes, I am an engineer's granddaughter after all! But don't let that put you off going there, there's still plenty of bikes on display that will get your own retro juices going I promise!! 8)

I think the translation is a tad subjective ;)

Feeling about 150 years old myself, old things are pretty cool.. if I'm in the area (and remembered or was reminded) I'd definitely pop in for a looksee 8)

Ian..

love the zigzag chain

got more pics ?

don't think there's anything like that up here ,but would love to be corrected

if you think about it most of those would be dirt bikes ,as there was no roads
back then

Mikee, you now stand corrected.

Get yourself down to Drumlanrig Castle and check out the wee bike Museum there, its got some interesting old stuff. I especially recommend studying the Retro-Direct geared roadster as it will mess with your head

I haven't got any more decent pics I'm afraid, but I might be able to get some from my mate, they were more into the proper retrobike stuff that they had some of when they were a kid, I was too busy looking at the surrounding "stuff" and forgot to take many photos! Lol!!
