Fitted some cleats to a new pair of shoes, the right is fine, no pain at all. The left however hurts like hell.... it's a pain across the central left side of my left foot. Could the cleat be in the wrong place you think? (I've 'matched' the cleat placing with my previous pair of shoes, although a different brand, by the way)

It's because the left shoe factories are generally slackers and the shoes end up not the right size :P

Seriously though, you should be setting the cleat all over again as if its your first because the slot positions may be slightly different per shoe make.

Could be hot-foot syndrome? When you tighten the shoes stand with all your weight on the foot which you are doing the shoe up on. This spreads the metatarsals. If you do a cycling shoe up without doing this the nerves between the bones can become iritated if your foot cannot spread out.
