Name that Kona?

I used to joke that I have a Cinderconelaueadome, but after being bit by the restoration bug (partially due to perusing your gallery), I have to know.


From reading the forums I know that it's a '93 because of the serial number F301xxxx. And I'm leaning toward it being a Cinder because of the seat post and the mixed Bontrager rims (x1 on front x3).

I believe they're an identical frame so does not matter unless it's going to have the exact parts that came with it ;-)

Also both came with the same rim BUT since these are 36hole it points to lavadome and not the cindercone that had 32hole wheels.


EDIT in fact looking at it more closely, it has the cheaper seatpost (not the 'lite' version, the groupset looks Exage is and if you check the crankset it is might have XD450 on it not XD500 (no idea if it's stamped on anywhere)

of course things could have been replaced.

Interesting! I'll check the cranks when I get home. I know that the bike was pretty much gutted (no original stem, pedals...at least the seat post collar is legit) And that Shimano Exage "stuff (and I'm being nice)" is going bye-bye soon. So for all intents and purposes I can rebuild it as a Cone by replacing the post, stem and deck it out with Deore LX group? Never seen a solid color Kona like this. Anyone have a color chart (for my repaint).
