My Trusty 1995 Steel Stumpjumper

atrimble

Retro Newbie
I purchased my 1995 Stumpjumper Metallic Silver-Green brand-new, and had not ridden it much in years. I was on the verge of letting her go until I tuned it up and, voila! The magic was back and now I wont let her go for anything.

I have tried to keep her as original as possible, but I certainly wanted to update it to modern performance standards.

I replaced the shifter/brake pods and cantilevers with correct-gen Shimano XTR M900, new Specialized grips, a new Specialized Ti saddle, Shimano XT M770 cranks, Shimano M950 Ti cassette, White Industries Rear Ti hub, XT front hub silver all on Mavic 517 hoops, Thomson setback seatpost, Tri-Dangle cantilever hangers, Ti eggbeaters and finished it all of with a Dura Ace/XTR 9-speed chain. She's down to 21.7 lbs and feels as awesome and responsive as ever.

The seatpost was heck to locate since its a 30.4 originally manufactured by Tahoma. I am trying the Thomson, but I might just go back to the original though it's a bit scratched up. The diameter of the Thomson does not quite match the diameter of the stem and looks a bit odd in my opinion.

I find myself ignoring my 2002 S-Works hard tail full-XTR to ride this. It's got it's own distinctive feel and I love it!

Thanks for looking : )
