My Ribble Christmas Tree

Re: My Ribble dilema

Do you ever get that moment when you walk into somewhere and know you've come to the right place I had one of these moments on Monday when I walked through the doors of Pine View Engineering in Dalston (Cumbria) this was quite large for a one man workshop. The owner turned out to be a John Baxter an old boy old skool gentleman who knew his stuff and had machines to spare. I told him of my predicament and he was more than willing to help me out, I initially just asked him to do the forks and when I asked him about the frame he was more than happy to do that as well as long as there was no rush which there isn't. So I'm just sitting back and waiting for the phone call to pick it up and the icing on the cake £30 to do it Very Happy Days!

As we all know not all things go to plan as has happened on the stem I was planning to do after having it re-engraved I painted it again only to have the same problem :x I looked into having the stem anodised and for £60 I could have and as I have more sense that money and they can't do the colour I asked for I decided to leave this one for now am a bit disappointed but I know you can't win them all if I decide to pursue this option later I'll find better skilled people as I know it could be done right
However not all is bad I got back the frame and forks today with a very happy result I took in the rest of the headset and John kindly let me fit it there to make sure all was well.

So began to build it up and put on the frame decals

I,ve gone with my original choice of bar and stem combo a ITM 400 racing stem with Super racing bars

So all in all looking more like a bike

Had a bit of a Job finding the right colour outer cables all I came across was the Light Grey version and as you can see it needs the Dark Grey which I hope I've got right this time so just waiting for those and some small bits to turn up valve caps and brake nipples, then all I'm looking for is some bar tape and a saddle am thinking of going with Grey but the only Grey saddle I've seen is a brooks at over £100 nice but to rich at the mo anyone got any suggestions for a saddle to fit the colour I've also though of white saddle and tape as well as black decisions decisions,,,

A Cougar in the woods

What would you do when a frame turns up and ticks a few more boxes than the current project it's rough, needs a paint job but it's got a bit more you can see the difference in the workmanship it's more in period with the current group set it fits the glove slightly better.

lovely finish to the seat stays

better bottom bracket

Buy it, soda blast the frame, paint it gloss black, and tell the Ribble "It was nice but I have outgrown our relationship" and send it on her way.

Best Wishes: Mike :D

I already did buy it Mike and it turns out to be another Ribble gonna send this one off and have the same colour scheme done and hang the 600 group set on it. The 531 Ribble is being fitted with a DA7700 group set with feather weight callipers TA grey anodised rings with the same rim and hub combo as before just in 36 hole, TTT bars and stem 600 seat post and spesh saddle am yet to sort out tyres and pedals but will be raiding the parts bin for these

The Rebuild so far

So it's done not exactly what I had planned but sometimes you have to leave the plan behind and go with the flow and I don't think it's turned out to bad this time. I'll look forward to taking it for a spin tomoz and give it a shake down.
