My Ribble Christmas Tree

Re:

This is looking like a top job, good attention to detail :) I kind of half keep an eye out for a Ribble not that I have any shed room for another bike!

It looks like its been lacquered over the paint? If you lug line on top of the lacquer it can look a bit strange because you have a thin transparent layer in between the paints.

Re:

Thanks Robbied that was my concern also plus the lug lining could only match the lettering and without lacquer over it it wouldn't look the same.
Finnley's idea earlier about doing the head stock in the same colour as the letters with a contrasting R on the front was great, but its done now so it won't be going back to the paint shop anytime soon I hope :)

Re:

The wheels look great! Are they 28 hole Ultegra hubs?

I'm after a pair of 28 hole cassette hubs for some rims I have

Mike

Cheers They're Ultegra 6400 tri colour mate The front came from the USA by way of Ebay and the Rear from Lowestoft by way of LFGSS

Well the plan was to build the ribble up over the hols but once again there's always something to throw a spanner in the works  , however I'm not to upset by this inconvienece as it happens to be a pair of NOS brifters from the USA :xmas-big-grin:.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shimano-600-B ... &rt=nc
Last NOS set I saw on Ebay went for over £200 , including import and postal cost I got them for less than 140quid which considering there's a pair of used ones on there at the moment for £113 its an excellent result

So I would of liked to of had this done but still waiting on parts to arrive and to finish the stem. I've done a mock up and decided not to line it after all here's a little taster.

This is coming together really rather well. Wheels look top drawer. I've got the same stem and matching panto'd seatpost; think i'll be stripping the paint and going all silver with the lettering painted. Looking forward to more updates on this thread, top marks thus far.

There's problems and there's PROBLEMS and I've got both :( some are easy so sort out like my brifters that have turned up. I got them out of the box and was expecting happy things they looked as described perfect never fitted but they didn't work  the LH shifter wouldn't return and the RH shifter the Pawls didn't engage. So it was time for a bit of fettling I knew that over the years the grease can congeal and stiffen up the inner workings, so Phase 1 was to put them on the radiator (with hoods removed  ) and heat up the grease and have a cuppa tea.
I could of taken them apart but as they are so good I didn't want to. After a few hours getting nice and hot I started to get movement in the LH shifter encouraged with this I attacked it with some GT85  and after much working in full movement was regained :D one down one to go. The RH shifter was a mare :x
much to my dismay the heat treatment and GT85 hadn't worked and the pawls still didn't not move freely. I was most peeved to say the least. I jumped on my high horse and contacted the seller explaining my problem fair play to the guy he offered to give me a full refund but I had other ideas I had totally given up on getting it to work and was now thinking to replace the internals from another shifter so I asked for a partial refund which was accepted and both parties where happy (mostly) . (As you lot don't know me from Adam I'll tell you a bit about me I'm a stubborn sod I'll not let anything beat me not if I can fix it and I mostly can) I didn't want to take this brifter to pieces, so after having a think and more tea
I used a spoke to push the internals round through the cable hole it stayed in place and operating the release lever it moved back so it was just the engagement pawl that wasn't working I moved it round again fully this time turned up the radiator to max left the shifter on it and went to bed. I ignored it for the morning and went for a ride came back and blasted it with more GT85 hit the release trigger 7 times and prayed, I moved the shifter and the pawl was biting only a couple of notches but it was a start after a tin of GT 2 1/2 hours of moving and intervals on the radiator I had success full range of gears and clicks it will need a regrease but I'll get some spray grease for that

So that was a bit of a problem. Yesterday I thought I'd tackle the headset oh boy now I got a PROBLEM I want to use a 6500 headset as I've gone and got a NOS happy days me thinks

But there's a problem the crown race won't sit down fully on the steerer and I know from experience that if you knock them on they can split I know they have to be tight but it should at least slide over. Hey no problem me thinks go and see LBS and get it sorted NO not happening LBS don't have the tools any more so I asked them if they could clean the threads on the fork steerer yep no problem but they want £30 for a 5min job 10 at most if they're slow  I am not paying that the greedy feckers. So got home and had a look at the job again and notice an even bigger problem…
With the headset cups in the frame I'm thinking thats looking a bit longer than the steerer and it is  I have 120mm on the steerer tube and I need 128mm  nope nothing is easy today.
How ever I do have a solution if I can gain 2mm on the forks and 2mm top and bottom off the head tube and get a .5mm washer I can get it to work so tomorrows task is to find a machine shop to turn the forks down and a good LBS

The black line on the forks is as far as I can turn down the forks with out the brake stirrup clashing with the crown race.
