My passat is no longer mad

right the source of £500 spent this month has now passed its Taxi test for another 51 weeks

so thats one headache over.

however, there are 4 ecu's for this car. the one that controls the alarm/ locking/ windows/ interior lights has gone bonkers and now there is also a puddle of water in the drivers footwell.

I think it requires shooting at dawn...

I had this in my Citreon yesterday, it's the bloody heater matrix, taken the fan with it too. I need to source new ones (cheap) and then its a complete dash removal. I wouldn't want to do it on your VW, being a much newer car will have lots more wires :( hope its just a door seal in your case.

I've left the heater on cold to stem the flow.

Didn't the ECU for the "comfort" systems (alarm, locking, windows) used to be under the drivers seat?

Funnily enough, I've read official info on a number of cars that it's dash out for heater matrix - but on some, it's nothing like as intrusive.

(edit: you could always clamp / blank off the coolant lines on the engine side of the firewall, going to your matrix?)

Air-con evaporator, though, most often is definitely a dash out job.

I need to replace the 'convenience ECU' under the passenger footwell and unblock the battery drainage...

Its pissing down.

unblocked drain hole - at least 3 - 4 litres of water in the battery tray area...

it may just be a case of removeing the ecu from its case and cleaning up the pcb, if its been getting damp/wet for a while there maybe a build of corrosion on the board causeing shorts? it's a well known s the windows, alarm and cntral locking crazy! there have been a few successful cases of people saving a few ££££s by cleaning the board and the plugs on the loom to the unit
