My passat is no longer mad

surpentine belt ate into surpentine belt pulley

[/quote]

the bearing in pully seizes! in an attempt to cut cost some garages dont change the tensioners/pullys and this is what happens, the pully locks up stopsspinning but the belt doesnt then burns/melts its way through the pulley!

right - you all know the what a collection of malladies this bloody thing is.

Anyway - bought it about a year ago when it was cold and autumnal so didnt notice any turbo probs as it was nice and chilly. Just thought it was a bit quick

anyway, last night, temp drops to about 3 centigrade. Turbo wakes up....

at 3700rpm (bearing in mind redline is at 4700!)

bloody thing takes of like a wailing banshee - I'm giggling to myself as 4th produces 120mph and 5th just carries on!!! hahahahahahahahahhahahahah!!!!

anyway, too much throttle causes the overboost problem and it goes back to a sort of limp wimp mode where 80mph is about its top speed.

I'm sick of it, I just dont know when its going to happen.

I think i'll take it out into a field, call its name (Nigel) and as soon as it pricks its ears up, I'll shoot the bugger between the eyes...

Have you used VAG-COM to read the fault code that's thrown up when it goes in to limp-mode?

Are there any dash lights associated with it (CEL)?

just says 'overboost' which is about 6 separate possible faults. I've fixed two listed so far:

N75 valve - boost control valve

MAF sensor.

no dashboard lights or service warnings

What's the actual code though?

Could you get one of these manual boost control valves that boy racers use (about 30quid i think) and then set that to below the overboost amount, if you know what i mean :?

120mph in 4th!!! bloody hell. I have a 2006 130tdi passat and as long as no flys are stuck on the car flapping their wings holding me back i might just about hit 120mph in 5th..... downhill..... with the wind behind me! And i've just had it serviced and new pipes on the turbo and intercooler and it's cooler out there now and i took the air filter out! If you want a good diesel don't buy VW! Jap or french everytime.
