My passat is no longer mad

pah ......my volvo is currantly at 220,000 miles and the turbo works lovely......only thing is cos its a 2 litre im on first name terms with the local petrol station. 8)

Cambelt!

Serpentine belt tensioner/ belt!

cambelt is every 60,000 or so.

belt tentioner wears out causing the belt to leave grooves on the tentioner and eventually knackering a perfectly good belt
 
That's it?!? I'd factored in a belt change and roller kit as soon as I buy one as well as a water pump (while it is apart I might as well). Sounds good, just need to find the right one now....

I just read this on What Car.... :shock:

"I have had the same problem as Carl Graham - water getting into the engine oil. This is caused by the gromets in the gully between the windscreen & bonnet.

If you take out the rubber gromets - one is underneath the battery - and throw them away you will not get this problem. It has just cost me £1600 to repair my car as it was first thought that the head gasket had blown, which was not the case"

Sounds odd though, where is the water getting in to the engine?
 
VW's use a oil to water oil cooler, these are a known failure point and give the impression of head gasket failure!

Leave the car on tuesday evening

thursday morning - fooking remote doesnt work, car alarm whinging away (dont worry, took the siren out otherwise Alconbury would be burning me in my car)

So, the current list of malladies for this motor:

Alarm
Temp guage doesnt work in hot weather
headlights have poor earth
no turbo
driver's window mech broke
surpentine belt ate into surpentine belt pulley
electric mirror switch broke
