My new project: 1990 specialized Stumpjumper comp

Ernesto1991

Dirt Disciple
Picked it up last Friday. Brought the stem back to original with a NOS stem. Changing the break cables (front was right and rear was left somehow) and now only looking for the right seat post. All parts of the bike are in near mint condition. Bike was put away years ago and hardly seen any action. Paintwork is excellent:

That is stunning! What a find!

I’d ask one of the moderators to move it into the owners bike thread collection however as more people will see it.... and this bike deserves to be seen!

Looking forward to the finished build and pics.

Re:

Thanks. There is one problem: I’m 1.90m/6’3” and the bike is a bit too small for me. So three options there for me: searching the net for a frame with same color in same state in 19 or 20” (that won’t be easy to find) hang the bike on the wall or sell it...

What size is it?
Not sure actually. From heart of the bracket till top seat pipe is about 48-49cm. That would qualify for a 19”-ish but I doubt that. I knew it could be a bit too small but this was too good not to buy it. The deore XT parts alone are worth more on eBay than I payed for the entire bike anyway.

19in. It´s ideal for someone 6ft. I remember looking at those white clomp stumpers in 1990 at covent garden cycles. I was mesmerized but bought a blue gt karakoram w/ suntour x1 instead.

Read your message but I can’t reply yet because of the fear of spammers. So I have to spam another 17 messages to be able to reply messages
Anyways, read it and will keep that in mind but probably won’t be a cheap thing I guess. But that’s all relative I’d say :D

That's a nice clean example of a 1990 Stumpjumper comp. 8) ....

One of the voting options I'm offering right here....

Ironically, the frame size is exactly what your after but the condition is no where as good as yours!
That is If the votes go in favour of keeping the original colour!
At the moment it looks as if a 1990 team jersey repaint is on the cards.

Cheers.

Thanks! According to what I see in the picture this frame has had plenty of punishment. A repaint is needed. I’ll keep that frame in mind.
Strange that only a couple of cm makes such a difference.
