my new aluminium O build thread update 10/03/11

If I were you I'd find a set up you're happy with before hacking off any canti mounts. Ride a fair bit with V's on the fork however much it hurts and put it down as 'testing'.

Forks are looking good on there sir! Loving the stealthy look but shame about the handling issue with them.

the annoying thing is it isn't the forks!! and they do look really good in there aswel! how frustrating is that!! been chatting with gary at ga cycles today, he said these frames always rode . . . well . . . badly (that's the not the words he actually used though )

basically my view is that the head angle is too slack for a fork of 390mm with a short top tube that forces you BITD to use a long stem, 140-150 etc but that would be too long for me.

although my elite has what looks like the same geometry and is running a 390mm rc30 the drop out offset is alot less and that rides nice which makes me think the "trail" measurement is wrong on the correct orange fork on the white ali O causing the crappy handling

any of that make sense to anyone?

i am curious to try the girvin fork in it just for a spin around the road to see how it feels and having seen today a solution for fitting a canti cable hanger off the seat clamp this would mean not having to cut the canti hanger off the fork beacuse then i'd run canti's front and rear. but then that defeats the point of getting this frame for me, which was to have a mid specced v brake bike for the winter.

bikes! bloody stupid hobby!

Your rim is made of LGF? :?

yeah the FIR rims were notoriously cheesy! the wear very concave very quickly and can fail quite badly causing injuries!

just need to replace the front one though

they look the part! just off out to a VW van meet but i think i'll get on to them!

thanks very much! :D

Yup, sounds like you would either need a fork with less offset or a longer stem. Wide bars may also speed up handling a bit, but may not change your weight distribution (which is a bad thing if you are struggling for grip).

Vee-dub meet eh ? Got a splitty ? I know a few people into the scene and like taking a peek at the rides and projects on ssvc.
