My Marin,anyone know what yr it could be from?

Heres my bike,its an old Marin i bought off my mate about 5/6 yrs back for riding to the pub on!I dug it out of the garage last week as i want to start riding (properly)again.Banged a new chain on it earlier this wk as its been sat there for approx 2yrs!Just wondered what approx age it is? Its certainly later than the marins that were about when i last rode(approx 97),i worked in a bike shop too back then that sold marins and we didnt sell them then too.So at a very rough guess i think maybe 2000?if anyone knows different! Also,many of the parts aren`t original,my mate changed some stuff,and i bought the wheels off him around the time i bought it from him,i changed the bars too!Anyone have any info on the brakes?Cranks? Infact anything here! Currently looking to buy a new bike,so unsure if any of these parts are worthy of putting on my nxt purchase! Have a look at the beast anyway!

the saddle and cranks are a lot older than the bike, i suspect the brakes are too. (i could be interested in the chainset if you are splitting hte bike.)

i would put it around 99/00 too

It's a clear 2000 and it looks original except wheels, brakes, saddle and handlebar. I know this bike as I still have a 2000 Marin catalog somewhere so I looked it up for you on the web:

This was the best spec Quake of that year and it looks a lot like the first Kona Chute (1999) with its gunmetal grey plus yellow. I can also remember pretty good that the German star Niels Peter Jensen came back to Marin that year and he had some nice ads in German mags with him riding the streets of San Francisco (sic) with one like that.

Lewis, bear in mind that Race Face Turbine LP cranks have been made for a lot of years and that the last batch of them, as far as I know, were ISIS units.

I am not exactly new on this forum; I followed it quite a bit in the last couple of years, but I just made this account, so this is my first post.

The seat definately is a lot older,i used to have these on all my bikes yrs ago,but i actually bought the seat brand new a few yrs ago from a bike shop!

This bike has a lot of life left in it. It's not exactly my business, but still, this is what I'd do with the bike.

Some TLC won't hurt her and there should be enough time during the winter. Just clean it up properly, grease what's supposed to be greased (headset, a little bit on the seatpost, a drip of oil in the housings etc.) and it will be a different beast.

The fork shouldn't be very hard to tear apart and clean/lubricate as well. Do it if you have some skills with that or leave it to somebody else if not. The last part of the cable looks damaged and should be changed, maybe the cable too. Bad shifting is mostly caused by a filthy housing.

Otherwise I am sure that you wouldn't use this bike for dirtjumping, so I'd sell the wheels or give them to a kid who is into that and get some 26" wheels, not necessarily too expensive ones, with tires for the type of terrain you'd be tackling. Another stem can also make sense.

Also, I don't know how those brakes work, but if you're not a huge Hope fan, maybe you could sell them for a good price to an enthusiast and get some simple newschool mechanical disk brakes, like some Hayes MX-2's for example, instead of them. Or you can put even some V-brakes, if you want to keep it simple, as both frame and fork have bosses for those.

i would have sworn that was a chute even the colours are the same but the rear stays are wrong btw the 99 chute is where ive taken my name from
